Callie Pendergrass

Senior patent agent

Callie Pendergrass leverages her deep technical knowledge in electronics, software engineering, physics, and control systems to navigate intricate patent disputes and inter partes reviews (IPRs). Her nearly two decades of experience have focused on serving prominent consumer electronics companies — including pioneers in GPS, sensors, image processing, location tracking, fitness devices, flying toys, wireless communication, online gaming, and gaming consoles — alongside clients in the software and cybersecurity sectors.

Since the inception of IPRs in 2013, Ms. Pendergrass has been a leading figure in drafting these challenges, achieving an exceptional lifetime institution rate of 90%, significantly higher than the Patent Trial and Appeal Board’s average of 60% since 2020. In one case, a patent holder abandoned over half of the contested claims after IPRs initiated by Ms. Pendergrass on behalf of a major consumer electronics innovator. Cases like that explain why she has been ranked among the top IPR practitioners for petitioners in the country by Patexia, an independent research group.

Her litigation prowess is evident in her role as the lead technical analyst in a case where her client secured a summary judgment of non-infringement, effectively eliminating a $500 million patent infringement claim against a leading video game console manufacturer.

Beyond her achievements in IPRs and litigation, Ms. Pendergrass also conducts offensive and defensive patent review, analyzes patent validity and invalidity, performs patent clearance searches and landscape analyses, and reviews source code.
