Michael D. Myers maintains a distinguished national law practice focused on class actions and commercial litigation. Over his career, he has been involved in more than 20 court-approved settlements concerning some of the world’s largest companies. His wide-ranging and diverse work before federal and state appellate courts includes landmark decisions involving life insurance benefits and personal privacy protections impacting millions of employees, the scope of bankruptcy protection, and threshold jurisdiction of the International Trade Commission.

Before joining Alavi Anaipakos, Mr. Myers managed a national class action and commercial litigation practice as a name partner at McClanahan Myers Espey, LLP, in Houston.

Several of Mr. Myers’ noteworthy cases have been reported in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, Forbes, and internationally in Le Monde. He has appeared on Good Morning America and CNN’s Prime News with Erica Hill to discuss life insurance investment issues, and several of his cases are described in “Retirement Heist: How Companies Plunder and Profit from the Nest Eggs of American Workers” by investigative reporter Ellen E. Schultz. Mr. Myers was consulted by documentary filmmaker Michael Moore on the 2007 film “Sicko” and appears in the 2009 film “Capitalism: A Love Story.”

He is a 1994 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law and a 1991 graduate of Texas A&M University. He also served in the U.S. Army’s 48th Explosive Ordnance Detachment (EOD).

REPRESENTATIVE CASES:

  • Represented a manufacturing company and its affiliates in multiple investigations before the International Trade Commission that established the Commission’s jurisdictional limitations regarding the importation of digital information into the United States.
  • Represented scores of employees’ estates in class action settlements involving corporate-owned, sometimes called “dead peasant,” life insurance policies purchased by some of the nation’s largest employers.
  • Represented classes of Texas’ largest companies to recover surpluses due them from the Texas Workers’ Compensation Insurance Facility and for premium overcharges for retrospectively rated polices for workers’ compensation insurance.
